"There are a tremendous variety of rituals and ceremonies marking out inner search for happiness, love and spiritual fulfillment rich with diversity. This video explores the celebration of the diversity found in the customs and religious significance surrounding marriage, one of the great rites of passage for people of all faiths and nations. In any religion, the marriage ceremony is among the most moving and reverential of all rites. It is a ceremony of joy, hope and love. It is joining not only of bride and groom, but of families and friends in a fervent wish for happiness and prosperity.

It represents so much that is good in mankind and it transcends culture, language and faith, speaking the universal language if two hearts beating as one.

This program focuses on the matrimonial practices of two religions born to India: Hinduism and Sikhism."

Review

School Library Journal, New York, USA January 1999

This video offers a rich and informative view of the wedding ceremonies performed in two religions: Hinduism and Sikhism. Both ceremonies are unique in their own ways regarding rituals, customs, congregation and performance of the nuptials. They share certain similarities, specifically the happiness and love felt by all as they celebrate the joyous union of the married couple. Although somewhat amateurish in production qualities, the video does contain expellant narration with explanation. The music helps add to the ambience and authenticity. The photography is quite colorful and entertaining as well as educational. This is valuable presentation for social studies classes studying India and for sociology classes studying customs such as marriage.
